In 2016, SVSU executives launched a massive renovation for their four-floor, Zahnow Library. Aiming to modernize the building and create a flexible space for students, they trusted the craftsmen at Britten WoodWorks to design beautiful and functional fixtures and casework that would complement the refreshed library.
The WoodWorks team constructed five circulation and reception desks with natural wood finishing and clean, white countertops. To ensure each desk had the perfect radius and shape to deliver a custom fit, all of the materials were heated and formed into a specialized mold. To maximize the functionality of every study area, the team also constructed several ingenious storage cabinets that required little extra floor space.
After completing the final construction phase of the two-year renovation, SVSU faculty hosted a grand re-opening celebration to show off the “new” Zahnow Library. Students loved the open floorplan and updated look of the library’s interior design. WoodWorks’ stylish and functional casework and specialty fixtures showed off the team’s ability to meet any creative challenge on time and within the project’s budget.
